Director of Consumer Research
Job Description
We are currently looking for a Director of Consumer Research to oversee user research and field trials. In this role, you will design, develop and moderate user studies to identify critical factors impacting product value and customer experience. The right candidate will combine outstanding interpersonal communication skills and attention to detail with a commitment to conducting impactful user research in support of product development, product management, and marketing.
Responsibilities:
  • Establish the User Research discipline for Magic Leap with a purpose of gathering holistic end-user feedback to assess product value and readiness.
  • Serve as a collaborative business partner with multiple groups, working cross-functionally to identify needs and opportunities, prioritize research efforts and influence decision-making based on results.
  • Develop and implement user-centered research using a variety of methodologies including usability studies, contextual inquiry, task analysis, surveys, ethnography and other appropriate qualitative and quantitative research techniques.
  • Translate research questions into well thought-out research plans and work closely with the product to align them with the product roadmap.
  • Facilitate the design & planning of user studies, including recruitment, scheduling, device support, and compensation.
  • Moderate user sessions, including interviewing participants and conducting behavioral observations.
  • Distil usability and research findings into actionable insights and plans and communicate these findings to the relevant teams.
  • Identify best research methods based on research goals, timeline, and resourcing, with emphasis on agility and iterative learning.
  • Be a user research thought leader; coach and mentor the product and design teams on user research best practices and trends
  • Be a strong and vocal user advocate.
Qualifications:
  • 10+ years' experience in user research and other research domains (market research) in a consumer technology product/company.
  • End-to-end experience driving all aspects of research (study design, recruiting, moderation, analysis, synthesis, and reporting).
  • Hands-on experience with the following methods: lab-based user testing, remote testing, field research, and survey design.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating past work experience and deliverables
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Experimental or Cognitive Psychology, Social Sciences, User Experience, Human Computer Interaction or similarly relevant field required. Master's degree or Ph.D. is a plus.
